80th day of the world run, a statue of Liberty and passing through another big French city, Toulon

Back to running a standard distance following 3 days of lower mileage and I was looking forward to spending more time on my feet. I left La Ciotat against a very colorful sunrise. Today I would follow the coastline for about 10km then cut across the little peninsula that hosts the famous Cap Negre, and towards Toulon – into the Lavandou area.

A statue of Liberty in a small town of the South of France. That was a surprising sight to say the least. I learned that this is an original by Bartholdi himself. It’s 2.5m tall and made of iron. To give you an idea, it’s about as big as the index finger of the Liberty in New-York! Tiny but beautiful, all shiny and gold. I also learned there are 7 replica in all. But this one in St Cyr Sur Mer is signed by the artist himself!

The arrival in Toulon went smoothly, on a very quiet Sunday. I then struggled with the pavements, in a similar way to what I experienced in Marseille two days ago. BoB is a tad too wide to navigate easily on a busy city’s sidewalks. Cars are not always parked as they should, bins let randomly outside houses, potholes and poorly maintained sidewalks, dog poop, there’s a lot to swerve around in addition to pedestrians themselves!

Using my “”handbreak”” as advised during a particularly steep downhill 🙂
