Day 27 – EU – Spain [Rest day in Malaga]

Rest day in Malaga (Spain, Europe)

Starting 2020 with a bright sunny and warm day in Malaga

It feels strange to start the New Year with a rest day! I had been hoping to go downtown last night and watch the fireworks in Malaga. Instead, I fell asleep at what must have been 10pm. I woke up at 7am this morning, rested and ready to hit the road again.

I am still unsure whether or not I need rest days. They feel fine in a way, it gives a rhythm and allows for a certain sense of pace. And the perspective of a “lazy day” every now and then is also quite pleasant. Whether I need this to happen every week or more spaced out, this is still up for adjustment.

I did what I typically do on a rest-day: dismantle BoB, check that all parts are intact, clean it up, find a laundromat to do my laundry, walk about and get a good meal, try to dip my toes in the sea, call friends, listen to music, watch a movie or two, get a nap, study the itinerary and weather forecast for the week ahead, book one more week of accomodations,…

We are now 4 weeks into the run, and I feel extremely fortunate that I have no physical discomfort to report yet. I feel absolutely fine, and every day I start the run with what feels like totally fresh legs. They don’t really tire throughout the run, they feel fine and pain-free mostly. As I have mentioned previously, the only major adjustment I have noticed, and it seems to last, is how much sleep I need. I am currently sleeping at least 9 hours every night and I add to this the occasional nap. That’s twice the amount of sleep I needed prior to the start of the run.

Since I missed this morning sunrise, I made sure to get a decent sunset snap tonight. Wishing everyone a fabulous start of the year, and hoping to meet some of you on the road soon!
