22/06/21

32km

From Marmara Ereglisi (Turkey) to Silivri (Turkey)

Europe

The road is getting busier as Istanbul is closer and closer – finishing today’s run in Silivri, a vibrant coastal city

Quiet morning along the coast

Leaving Marmara Eriglisi this morning, it took me about 3km of running east to connect back to the point I ran through yesterday as I entered the city. I was greeted by awesome views of the coast, pastel colours, very misty in the early hours. It was quiet and peaceful for just about an hour. Then I could sense the traffic getting heavier. I am now less than 100km away from Istanbul and as always with major capital cities, traffic intensifies on approach!

Welcome to Silivri!

My run ended in Silivri today. I read that Herodicus, the Greek physician originates from here. Quite fitting really as he was a pioneer in using therapeutic exercise to maintain health and keep diseases at bay, along with advocating healthy diet and massage. Save for the massage bit (I’m not a big fan), he pretty much nailed it and this was… 5th century BC! Why is the message still not fully understood after all this time you wonder! Stay active everyone 🙂

As colourful as it gets

Silivri is a vibrant and colourful city by the Marmara sea. As I arrived by the seaside boulevard and bridges, I was greeted by a rainbow of colours, buildings painted bright all along the canal with flowers and pedestrians paths all along, how welcoming. The city is a holiday and weekend getaway for Istanbul residents apparently, I would say it’s a very relaxing and pleasant place. Just another two runs to Istanbul, it’s quite incredible to think the journey of crossing Europe is coming to an end..!
