Tough uphill run with a persistent cold headwind

Quite a contrast to yesterday’s run. Today started with 37km of progressive uphill (from 300m to nearly 900m altitude) with the last part being quite brutal. The northerly eastern wind was still blowing today and it chilled the air by a few degrees despite the radiant sun. I found it quite a hard day of running, it ain’t easy finding your legs on a 37km continuous uphill even when the gradient is not so severe. The weight of BoB the stroller is enough to amplify any small gradient, enough to make it feel significant!

The surroundings were once again superb, Switzerland’s countryside on a Sunday is filled with hikers, cyclists and horse riders. With such incredible weather it seems everyone is outside soaking up the sun. I haven’t seen much snow for the past few days. I guess I will see more snowy summits when I reach Zurich tomorrow, the view of the Alps is usually quite clear from there.

I’m staying in Aarau tonight, a lovely city with a beautiful old town. I did not do too much walking around town today as I arrived quite late. Being a Sunday my priority was to find a shop that’s open. In Switzerland it’s always a good idea to head to the train station, there’s always a Coop or Migros open. But today, that meant another 2km walk on top of my running day. Time to put my feet up!
