Day 299 – EU – Belgium [Bastogne to Habay]

Europe

Today’s combo of headwind, rain and cold, left me once again battered by the elements!

The weather forecasts did not look good as I watched them this morning. There was going to be a constant and increasing south wind and rain all the way. I was heading south today. And it happened exactly as planned. It felt like being forcefully sprayed in the face with cold water whilst trying to run right into it. Tiring once again!

The elevation profile was also interesting. I am crossing into the “Ardennes” of Belgium, a region of extensive forests, rough terrain, rolling hills and ridges. It’s 4 days in a row where I have cumulated elevation of over 500m+ (including yesterday’s 850m+). Running with the 30kgs stroller, I consider every day with more than 500m+ a relatively tough day. Coupled with the harshness of the elements lately, it’s fair to say I’m having a particularly tough week!

I took only one picture today, my phone stayed in its waterproof pocket all along (yesterday some water made its way to the plug and I was afraid I would lose my phone). I need to be more careful. The snow is melting, but some roads are still not clear of it and it is sometimes very challenging to run through.
