Europe

A cold beautiful day, arriving in the beautiful village of Sancerre, home of a world famous wine

Today’s temperatures oscillated between 0 and 3 Celsius. Quite cold but surprisingly it did not feel as bad as yesterday. The culprit, the stingy cold wind, was absent today and it made the run a lot more bearable. I was dressed for the occasion, with two pairs of socks, two layered gloves and my woolen hat. It did the job.

Halfway through the run I passed by Charite-Sur-Loire a beautiful middle age type of village, with a cathedral and a beautiful bridge over the Loire river. I thought about how I miss stopping by for a warm drink, chocolate or coffee, at the villages’ coffee shops. Last year I would almost always stop by at the halfway point to warm up a little, and it gave the run a different pace and perspective.

Sancerre is a beautiful little villages, very ancient, set on top of a hill surrounded by vineyards. I quickly went around but the cold was really biting! Tomorrow there is a red alert for wind, floods and rain in the region I am crossing. From what I can see, there will be rain all the way, temperature above 0 Celsius but real feel around -6 Celsius and wind up to 90kph. All I can do is dress warmly, with all my waterproof garments and hope for the best!

Tonight my host, Dany, was hosting a little Christmas gathering with three of her friends. She invited me to join them (the maximum allowed in France is 6 adults at a time). It felt very much like Christmas, with rich food, cakes and sweets and a warm cup of spicy christmas tea to warm up!
