Country run on Frances Road, surprise visit from Marlene and Wayne in their antique cars

Past Pooginagoric on a wet morning

The day started off grey and wet. For the first 25km or so I was quite cold and getting rained on. At km26 I found the van that James had parked whilst he was away cycling. I jumped in and changed into dry clothes. A cup of hot broth later, I was back on the road and the skies had cleared.

Posing by Marlene’s 1936 Ford “The Beauty”

It was not long before I saw two antique cars pass me, driven by Marlene and Wayne. They stopped and we chatted quite a while. I was given a full tour of “The Beauty” a 1936 Ford, with original leather and wood work. Marlene got it from her father and maintains it in perfect condition. I am usually not much into cars, but I have to say I was impressed! James bumped into us on his ride back to the van and had the privilege of getting a ride in the Ford.

Presents from Marlene & Wayne: homemade biscuits and fresh eggs from the farm

As we chatted, Marlene and Wayne told us that France – the town where I was headed – would be quite busy tonight as “The Austins” were playing live. We agreed to meet there. They booked a table, which was also filled with their friends Glen & Mary, and we were treated to a great dinner in a fullhouse with great live music! Such a nice evening. I left when I couldn’t keep my eyes open – and that’s when the youngsters started to move the tables around to start dancing. Made me feel quite old all of a sudden!
