Day 764 – Australia – SA [Two Wells to Adelaide]

13/07/22

42km

From Two Wells (South Australia) to Adelaide (South Australia)

Australia

Running on busy roads to the big city, Adelaide – and a nice French welcome

Leaving the countryside behind

I have been waiting for today for a long time: running into a big city. It’s been 2,784km since Perth, I feel it’s about time to. Nearly as much as Seattle – Minneapolis (2,920km) in my North American crossing. The run was about getting onto the A1 outside of Two Wells and following the road right through to the city centre. It got very busy and with some hairy moments (when the shoulder disappeared all together and I ended up in traffic).

Into the big city

I approached the city from the north, discovering the skyline of Adelaide and notably the St Peter cathedral towers. Crossed a few parks and on I was, running around the CBD. What a difference it makes, for a change, to navigate streets, traffic lights, and heavy traffic.

Left to right, Chloe, Marcia Mac Lachlan and me

Later on in the day, at 5pm, I made a “symbolic” little run to the French Consulate quarter in Unley. I was welcomed by Honorary Consulate Marcia Mac Lachlan and assistant Chloe. We sat down to enjoy some snacks and drinks. The Consulate is inviting us to a few events on Bastille Day – but more about that tomorrow!
