38km

From Yellowdine Roadhouse (Western Australia) to Kooro Retreat (Western Australia)

Australia

Meeting people and getting great tips on another cool run along the Great Eastern Highway

View from the top of the pipeline

Since yesterday, it seems both James and I are out of data. When we are on the road, we have sometimes 3G, sometimes nothing at all. Yesterday evening we used the Wifi from the roadhouse to do our work. And tonight the Wifi from the retreat we’re staying at. In the context of lack of communication means, I have decided to stick to running by the Highway (which is wide and quiet enough) and only run by the pipeline if it is within view from the road. Safety comes first.

Quite rightly “Over Size” ..!

A few km into my run, I passed by the Yellowdine Roadhouse. As I was about to sit down for a break a group of 4 cyclists came towards me and asked me questions about my running. I guess you don’t get to see many solo runners out here. I told them what I was doing and they immediately came forward with a great tip. 40 km further up the road, I had planned to spend the night at the “overnight camping area” – which is a dedicated area with no facilities, but ok to park the motorhome. They told me there is a small retreat just up the road that has a bed & bathroom for 75$ a night. They made the call, and just like that, my accomodation was sorted!

Always nice to meet on the road!

We have decided to spend two nights there. It will require a little bit of commuting tomorrow and the day after – but what’s a 36 km drive when you can sleep in a proper bed! The Koora retreat did show up on my map when I was planning the journey. But it always showed as “not active” and I had assumed it was closed for good. It is actually in the process of being sold and we are lucky to be able to use the facilities. An interesting place, which I will talk about in more details (and pictures) tomorrow!
