Day 696 – Australia – WA [Rest day in Merredin]

Rest day in Merredin (Western Australia, Australia)

A day of rest in the “Garden Town of the rural Wheatbelt”

The old water tower, Merredin WA

Since running a little west of Northam, I have been traveling through the Wheatbelt of Western Australia. The region’s main income comes from mining and agriculture. Merredin, the place we are staying on the rest day is dubbed “the garden town of the heart of the wheatbelt”, thanks to its strategic location at the junction of the water pipeline and the track to the goldfields. It’s a quiet and pristine little town, with great cafes, museums and a tight community.

The upcoming weeks (or blocks) of running will involve long segments between towns or roadhouses / service stations. That’s the beginning of us having to be self-sufficient for up to 4 days in a row. As long as we have enough fuel, food and drinks onboard, we should be just fine.

Quite looking forward to yet another experience of traveling on the journey!
