Another run in the headwind on the Goldfields Rd – and on to a rest day

Our Campervan or Motorhome – on pickup day in Perth WA

Yesterday I mentioned that I am now traveling with a new set-up, the motorhome, which is driven by James every day. I failed to provide a picture, so there it is! It is significantly bigger than the campervan we had in South America. We now have headroom, a gas cooker, a fridge, shower and toilet onboard as well as a proper bed to sleep on. We also have an airconditioning unit which can be used as a heater as we’ll cross the desert (it gets cold at night).

Flies-proof traveling companion

Meanwhile it was still windy as I set out this morning. When James cycled towards me around the midway point, he was wearing his flies-net. Going with the wind, he had swarms of flies following him. As I stopped for a break to eat the meat pie he brought me (very yummy meat pies here in Australia) I had to wear my net and eat underneath it – reminded me how years ago, when trekking in Scotland, I had to wear a net and eat underneath it too to avoid the midges!

One of the few people I met today

The road is quiet as it gets. I only saw two cars today. They both stopped to ask if I was alright. I had a chat with a driver who was very interested in my run to Sydney and wanted to help by donating to WFWI. A good thing when people stop by for a chat! It’s a beautiful natural environment to run in and I am enjoying it as I know that soon… I’ll be in the desert with no trees at all!

We drove 20min to the town of Merredin for our day off. More about it tomorrow.
