Day 681 – South America – Argentina [Junin to Chacabuco]

03/03/22

45km

From Junin (Argentina) to Chacabuco (Argentina)

South America

Country roads, blue skies, sunshine – and not a soul in sight

Two tall and beautiful monkey puzzle trees

It got hot again today. I ran all along on country dust roads, incredibly quiet and deserted (I must have met less than 5 cars all day). There is no shade at all, though I notice there are more and more trees alongside the road. The birds are also different now (from those I saw in the swamps area), loads of parrots and much much noise for (a very welcome) company.

Not a soul in sight

I finished the run in Chacabuco today. We are just 200km away from Buenos Aires, yet it still is very rural. That’s another 5 marathons to reach the capital and I will have to complete 2 more runs to fulfill the WRA criteria for a continent crossing: minimum 3000km. Another 7 runs on the South American continent!

With Maria-Lara, the french teacher from Chacabuco

Tonight we went to town for dinner and stopped at the Blue Bar & Restaurant. What a great choice! A vibrant place with nice music and very diverse clientele. And delicious food. The owner introduced us to our table neighbours, 3 ladies of which Maria-Lara was most interested: a french teacher, a translator, who speaks french without an accent. We chatted for a while – then went on another round of Chacabuco at night, via Plaza San Martin, which featured beautiful tall monkey puzzle trees and great architecture. Quite a pleasant surprise!
