Day 591 – US – Maryland [Baltimore to Bel Air]

16/11/21

40km

From Baltimore (Maryland) to Bel Air (Maryland)

North America

A quiet day on a country road, out of Baltimore towards Philadelphia

Autumnal landscape

I left Baltimore this morning, blue skies, sunshine and 0 Celsius. The norm by now it seems. Going from downtown to the North East, I had to cross some challenging areas. The poorer the neighborhood, the more neglected the roads and pavements. It took a lot of running through broken glass, potholes, inexistent sidewalks and other things… till I finally made my way to Road 7.

Running along Road 7

Road 7 is sort of a country road, quiet and without much traffic. I ran over the Gunpowder River, and I thought how the Amtrack railtrack is just a stone throw away – and that’s where my parents will be traveling tomorrow as they are rallying Washington DC to New York by train to wait for me there. Not long to go, but it seems every day is a reminder about how it all is getting so close.

Technically I could have finished the crossing of the US in Baltimore I guess… That would have fitted the definition of “from Ocean to Ocean” for a continent crossing. But finishing in New York city is so much more symbolic, for so many reasons. So… another 8 runs on the continent, here we go!
