Day 585 – US – Maryland [Hagerstown to Frederick]

10/11/21

37km

From Hagerstown (Maryland) to Frederick (Maryland)

North America

Another sunny and warm day on the hills of Maryland

Crossing paths with the mythical trail

What a difference a few days make… I set out this morning and it was well above 12 Celsius… That’s a 15 Celsius swing from back a few days ago, a major change! I was quite glad about it and I was in my t-shirt from the start. Forget the woolly hat and gloves.

Counrty life

Today was another hilly run, with over 500m+ to climb. But it went much smoother than the previous days. For a start… I had my tires pumped! I am very ashamed that I had not paid much attention to it till now… As a former cyclist, who used to ride well over 300 km every week, I should have known that tire pressure is important. Yet I have neglected it. And I only had a small hand-pump for the stroller.. Anyway this morning I pumped the tires up at the gas station and … I felt like I flew, not ran!

Enetring Frederick Maryland

The road was very quiet once again. The local sheriff caught up with me as I was taking a break on top of a hill. We had a chat, he was happy that I was wearing my reflective vest and kept to the side of the road, wished me good luck and that was that. I am surprised how all the encounters I have had with law enforcement so far in the US have been so positive. They all are concerned about the possible presence of a baby in the stroller, then about my own safety, and then.. they invariably wish me luck on my journey…
