Day 586 – US – Maryland [Frederick to Gaithersburg]

11/11/21

42km

From Frederick (Maryland) to Gaithersburg (Maryland)

North America

A narrow and busy road to start with, beautiful landscapes and warm weather

Morning skies in Frederick

The run out of Frederick started beautifully, with a pink pastel sky sunrise. I ran through the residential area then I was onto the Urbana Pike, which happened to be quite busy in the morning. Cars, school buses, trucks… It was hair raising as I had a tiny shoulder to run on. I did my best to stick to the side of the road and to park every now and then when traffic was piling up behind me. I must have been a real annoyance for the motorists this morning. Yet not one honked at me!

A very narrow shoulder! Beautiful landscapes though…

Then past Urbana, there was a lot of constructions going on. New residential areas it seems. The region I am in at the moment is part of the greater Washington DC area, it’s very populated. The closer I got to Gaithersburg, the better the running. I finally had a proper pavement to run on, sheltered from traffic, some peace and quiet at last!

Entering Gaithersburg

As I neared the city, I wondered why everything felt much harder than it should. I did not think I was tired, had no particular reason to be. And then as I was looking at the stroller, I found the culprit. A flat tire. If you’re a cyclist, you’ll know how important properly pumped tires are. Well, I decided to carry on with the flat – that’s a job for tonight!

I am quite looking forward to tomorrow… and reaching the White House in Washington DC, of course, what else! Ah, yes, and meeting with my parents, that’s what! Lucky me…
