From Hancock (Maryland) to Hagerstown (Maryland)

North America

Trail running along the Potomac river, then onto a scenic run all the way to Hagerstown

Potomac River, looking to West Virginia on the opposite bank

A beautiful and warmer morning again. I set out to run on the Western Maryland Rail Trail, a 28 miles long reconverted rail track. It runs along the Potomac River which separates West Virginia (south of the river) and Maryland. I was spoiled this morning, I got to see many of the white tail deers – and even managed to get some on video and pictures.

Scenic road to Hagerstown

I then got to run along the National Pike road, which took me all the way to Hagerstown. It’s now 10 days in a row that my runs comprise over 500m+ elevation every day. There should be two more days of these and then onto flatter terrain. If you have read this blog long enough, you would know that I usually struggle to run past a 3% gradient due to the 30kg stroller. The force it would require to keep running is more than my muscles can handle! That means I go on a fast walk (as much as I can) when it gets to 3-4% and above.

Entering Hagerstown

Hagerstown is a very pretty town, with plenty of stone buildings and two beautiful churches. It was nice to get to run through town on the way to the hotel – which is, as most of the time, on the periphery of town.
