Day 579 – US – Pennsylvania [Greensburg to Donegal]

04/11/21

33km

From Greensburg (Pennsylvania) to Donegal (Pennsylvania)

North America

Short and hilly, I’m in Pennsylvania’s ski resorts territory – slow and demanding day!

Al fresco start

A cold start to the day, minus 3 Celsius reported, it stung! Woolen hat, gloves on, I knew it would not take too long to feel warm again, hills were on the menu again. With over 850m+ over 33km, it’s fair to say it was a demanding day! In fact there is not a bit of flat at all. Just like the previous runs, it’s either up or down, to various degrees. What a leg breaker! Today turned out to be one of the slowest runs of the whole world-run so far.

Those hills..!

I am currently running in the hills of Pennsylvania which form part of the skiing resorts of the region (about 20 of them). The elevation is not that much but it gets really good snow. Made me think I’m quite glad I am crossing the region before Winter, that would have been another difficulty to deal with. Autumn is perfect, colours are beautiful and I don’t get to sweat too much running up the hills!

Flight 93 Memorial in Somerset county, PA

As I approached Donegal, which is near the border of Somerset county, I saw a sign on the Highway about Flight 93. The plane that got hijacked on 9/11 ended up crashing on a field in Somerset county, not far from where I am now. I won’t be running past the site, which is about 45km West of my current position.
