Day 783 – Australia – VIC [Lake Goldsmith to Ballarat]

01/08/22

43km

From Lake Goldsmith (Victoria) to Ballarat (Victoria)

Australia

Another cold run on country roads and into Ballarat, the busiest city since Adelaide

Morning landscape

With Mount Emu in the background and lots of rolling hills ahead of me, I started the run with just about 5 Celsius. Chilly. The north wind was still blowing, but I didn’t mind as long as the weather stayed dry. And it did, throughout. Quite a lovely wintery day on the roads.

The shrinking shoulder on the rolling hills

I noticed how the roads – which were so quiet out of Lake Goldsmith, started to get busier and busier. Cars, trucks, combined with an ever shrinking shoulder: it felt like getting close to a big city! Ballarat is the second biggest city in the state of Victoria with over 110,000 inhabitants.

Today is the 1st of August… and I realise this is the last month of the world-run. My arrival in Sydney is planned for the 30th August… It feels quite surreal to contemplate the last 30 days of the adventure. Meanwhile, I shall keep enjoying each day outdoors, on the roads, until the very last one.
