Day 759 – Australia – SA [Port Germein (7k west) to Warnertown]

08/07/22

41km

From Port Germein (7k west) (South Australia) to Warnertown (South Australia)

Australia

An easy start along the railway and a complicated last 12km on the Highway

Cold start by the railway

The mornings are getting quite cold. It was around 6 Celsius when I started today. It warmed up a little, with the sun piercing through the veil of clouds. I managed to run by the railway most of the way, on a very nice trail. A little too many stones sometimes and a little too slanted at times too. I picked up a little limp, probably from running on the slanted slope.

By Telowie Beach

About 30km into the run, I joined the Highway. I spotted a petrol station and went in, hoping for a nice hot drink and maybe a little snack. Alas, I realised I wasn’t carrying any money. I sat looking poorly, munching on an apple and drinking water from my bottle – whilst everyone around was enjoying hot meals and drinks. Damn, I shall be carrying some cash in my backpack from now on!

Last trail before being back on the dreaded A1

I ended the run just past Warnertown, a few kilometers away from Crystal Brook. A very picturesque town with a bakery that makes the most amazing Kupsch pies. Not that I ever had a Kupsch pie before, really! Not even Google can explain what a Kupsch pie consists of. All it says is that it is a pie made at the Kupsch Bakery. Well, then, if you happen to travel through Crystal Brook, do yourself a favour: stop by the Kupsch Bakery and order a couple of Kupsch pies, you won’t be disappointed.
