Day 75 – EU – France [Avignon to Salon De Provence]

18/02/20

47.8km

From Avignon (France) to Salon De Provence (France)

Europe

Along the National 7 road, past the hometown of Jean Moulin and into Salon, home of Nostradamus

The return of the blue sky! The air was warm as I set out this morning for what was going to be a long day. I estimated there would be round about 48km to run today. I was fine with it. I knew it would be windy, with “Mistral” wind in full force. But yesterday’s weather forecast app check, told me the wind was blowing NNW, as I would be heading NNE… Pushing me all the way, hurrah!

One of the first villages I ran through was Saint Andiol, and I was immediately taken by how many monuments and paintings there were in homage to Jean Moulin. Jean Moulin is “the” hero and founder of the french resistance movement against the Nazi occupation. As a child, I have been absolutely fascinated by the “Resistance” movement, during the 2nd World War. Saint Andiol is his birthplace.

The day on the road was pleasant, I was prepared for a long run and somehow happy to be enjoying good weather on my side. Mistral wind blowing in my back, and secondary road with wide shoulders… Happy day!

My host family tonight, the Giordano’s, shared with me memories of Singapore – it is a rare thing in France, Singapore is not a place many have visited. Whether it is Singapore or anywhere else, it is always just a pleasure to make a connection, wherever.
