Awesome running today, through Lake Cowan, past Norseman and onto the Eyre Highway

Running past Lake Cowan

What a beautiful day on the road today. Accompanied by James on his bike, I ran the gas pipeline all the way to Lake Cowan. It is a completely dried lake at this time of year, giving truly stunning views. Red scintillating earth, with all the salt and mineral contents exposed to the sunlight. We spent some time there, taking pictures and videos, it is clearly one of the most amazing places I have run through so far in the world-run.

Some way to go!

After the lake, James cycled back to the campervan, to drive it to the finish and cycle towards me again at the finish. I continued alone, eventually joining Eyre Highway outside of Norseman. Eyre Highway symbolically marks the start of the Nullarbor desert. The signs were clear: next station 190km (Balladonia) – Adelaide… 1986km away! We’re gonna have to be patient over the next month or so.

It’s gonna get lonely!

Meanwhile as I was getting closer and closer to the finish point, I was wondering why I hadn’t seen the campervan pass me. Well, it eventually did and James had some bad news, as his bike suffered a mechanical failure and his front wheel now has a cracked rim. Damn! Well, better now than in the middle of the desert crossing! We arranged to sort things out on Monday in Kalgoorlie. So tomorrow I run another marathon (since nothing can be done on Sunday). And we use our rest day on Monday to reach a bike store and give that front wheel a new life cycle (pun intended, thank you Lisa!).
