Day 676 – South America – Argentina [Rufino to Diego de Alvear]

26/02/22

44.5km

From Rufino (Argentina) to Diego de Alvear (Argentina)

South America

A very hot and humid day by the swamps, a hard day of running

The grassy roadside – start time

I did not expect today to turn out this way. The forecast was for an overcast day with temperatures just around 30 Celsius. What it turned out to be was an extremely hot day, with sky high humidity. Among the hottest (if not the hottest) of the South American runs. It was a 45km run and I had started a bit late, so all in all, it got tough towards the end.

I spotted a little armadillo again today. This time, it was a bit less shy and hid under a bunch of long grass when it spotted me. Then it sort of came out and I was able to snap a few pictures. Its other name is the “Pichi”; they are a “near-threatened” species. It was a bit sad to see a few of them flattened on the road. They have not much to defend themselves, they look quite vulnerable really.

Very adorable little Pichi

A province that sounds like the end is in sight!

At the end of the run, I crossed into the Buenos Aires province. It seems that I crossed the Santa Fe province at its thinnest width. Anyway I am now in the ultimate province, which will see me all the way to the finish by the Atlantic ocean… very soon now! What a journey. I will be glad when I am finally out of the pampa and that good old route 7.
