Day 656 – South America – Argentina [Potrerillos to Mendoza]

06/02/22

46km

From Potrerillos (Argentina) to Mendoza (Argentina)

South America

Leaving the big mountains behind, on a summery day by the Lake and into a big city, Mendoza

Departing under sunny skies

The clouds and wind of yesterday seemed to have receded this morning, and I left Potrerillos in almost balmy temperatures. As I ran downhill from the 1500m elevation, I reached the Potrerillos lake. It’s the first time in the world-run that I am seeing so many cyclists on the road. Mountain bikers, road bikers… It seems everyone was out to enjoy the beautiful Sunday!

Scenery – Lago Potrerillos

I took the scenic “Ruta Provincial” to Mendoza, avoiding the main traffic ax of road 7. Wise choice! It seems all the traffic was coming towards the lake, away from Mendoza. I was quite happy with running safely, in very pretty landscapes. As I looked over my shoulder, I could see the last of the snowy summit, probably the Aconcagua (but I could not be too sure).

Aconcagua in the background?

I stopped running in the southern district of Mendoza. As I was approaching the city (which is home to over 1 Million people) I noticed how I could see miles on end of vineyards. This is the major industrial production of the region, alongside olive oil. Maybe the day off will be another opportunity to visit some local vineyard. More about it tomorrow !
