Day 633 – South America – Chile [Constitucion to Los Rabanos]

14/01/22

38km

From Constitucion (Chile) to Los Rablanos (Chile)

South America

Beautiful weather, running along the rugged Pacific coast of black sand and surf

Running across Rio Maule out of Constitucion heading north

What a great choice it was to run close to the coast – as opposed to alongside the main Ruta 5 road. Traffic is very light, around us forests, fields, some cattle and horses every now and then. To the left the ocean, but today I mostly saw the great dunes – of black sand – forming small hills. I could feel and smell the ocean but only got rare glimpses of it.

Blue skies, sunshine, (almost) happy feet!

Today I had to strap my right ankle. It’s not exactly like anything is wrong with it, but I have noticed how the veins are expanding and the ankle looks swollen. I reckon it has to do with all the running on unsurfaced roads, as well as running on slanted roads for the past few weeks. Strapping it should allow the veins to return to their normal diameter… and relieve some of the tension I have felt lately.

James making it back to the Campervan, our meeting point every day

We are staying in Iloca tonight. The coast is quite rugged but here and there a few surfing villages, beach side resorts (no buildings… only small wooden cabanas as usual) – but we have spotted great restaurants and bars where it would be nice to enjoy the sunset. The joy of having a Campervan to move around once the run is over!
