Day 558 – US – Indiana [Gary to Michigan City]

14/10/21

49km

From Gary (Indiana) to Michigan City (Indiana)

North America

A rainy and warm day on the road towards Michigan City – and dinner with Connie

It was raining lightly as I hit the road this morning. Not unpleasant at all, more like a drizzle, and the air was warm. I did not wear any rainproof attire, just went in my shorts and t-shirt as usual. It felt fine. I had a bit of trouble in the first part of the run, as there was no proper lane for me to run on. I was literally in a lane of traffic. Though I always wear the high-vis vest, I felt it was sub ideal, as with the rain and low visibility, I was somehow a hasard.

Anyway, it was only about 15km of it and then I was on Highway 20 with a proper (but very tiny) shoulder to run on. I was running parallel to the Dunes but unfortunately did not get to see them. Today was a big day, at 49km, and tomorrow is a 58km – so… as bad as it sounds, I was not willing to go the extra mile today…

Tonight I was picked up by Connie and she took me to the Shoreline Brewery for drinks and dinner. What a treat! Connie has been involved with world-run journeys ever since she picked up the call in 2005 to help Jesper Olsen, the 1st ever man to run around the world. She is now still involved with him, as Jesper is on his journey to run across Antarctica. It was something to trade stories with Connie, and get her understanding and enthusiasm in exchange. It’s getting late and tomorrow is a big day, so that’s goodbye for now!
