Day 536 – US – Minnesota [Minneapolis to Hastings]

22/09/21

53.5km

From Minneapolis (Minnesota) to Hastings (Minnesota)

North America

Out of the city through the suburban trails and across the Minnesota River – with glorious autumn weather

Leaving Minneapolis behind at dawn

First day of autumn and the weather was glorious today, bright blue skies, sunny and warm. It took a while to get out of Minneapolis but it was surprisingly pleasant. I ran through the suburbs, on the network of city trails and did not have to run in traffic once. I crossed the Minnesota River, with the view of Minneapolis and St Paul in the background – and then I was on quiet country roads for most of the way to Hastings.

Across the Minnesota River (Minneapolis in the background)

Some good news lately… the US has announced it is reopening its borders to EU residents from 1st November. That means in all likeliness, my parents should be able to join me on my last stretch of running across North America into New York City. And Chile and Argentina have announced they will reopen to tourism on 1st October. That means by the time I am set to start the South American crossing, I should not have any issue (maybe a few days’ quarantine at worst). Let’s hope Australia & New Zealand will follow suit early 2022!

Pace wise, I am still clocking (for the past two weeks) some of the fastest running of the world-run. I have looked into it and I am not worried. It is also some of the flatest running I have done too (on par with the plain of Po in Italy). So again, I have decided to keep running on instinct and not look at pace whilst running… I will let it settle and I am confident it will naturally slow down once I get more hilly runs.
