Day 479 – US – Montana [Clinton to Drummond]

27/07/21

46.6km

From Clinton (Montana) to Drummond (Montana)

North America

A poor day on the road – there has to be some!

Frontage Rd to Drummond

Yesterday’s lodge was a terrible affair! Old, under renovation work, dirty. I was the only client, the owners would not be around at night as they stay in the nearest town, 10km away. The lodge is the only thing at Rock Creek, stuck between the Interstate road and the trail line. Heavily tattooed bikers filled in the pub drinking through the afternoon. When I was upstairs in my room, I noticed I was out of phone and data reception – and the wifi did not go as far as the 1st floor either. In a word, I was totally isolated.

About the only company I got today

As the night set in, the pub closed and I noticed a group of bikers remained nearby, camping by the lawn of the lodge. Though I was meant to be alone at the lodge, people kept coming in and up the stairs – I understood they used my bathroom as a toilet. With all these, I had not had dinner (I was not keen for everyone to see who was the client up all alone on the 1st floor), I did not pack on water (the owners were short of it and you did not want to use tap water trust me). And I slept very few hours.

Mountains as far as the eye can see

I was glad when it was time to leave. But soon everything backfired. I felt tired after the 20th kilometer. I felt hungry too, which never happens when I run. And by kilometer 30, I knew the lack of water was gonna be an issue too. What a day! The landscapes were superb as ever and once I was off the interstate onto the frontage road, there was next to no traffic.

Now on for a good rest, tomorrow is a shorter day and hopefully not as hot as today.
