Running along the Chalkidiki peninsula with a finish by the sea

The coast past Nea Kallikrateia

A splendid day on the road. It’s starting to get quite hot by mid-morning, I have to carry more water on board. I ran past the 3 largest towns of the Chalkidiki peninsula: Nea Moudani, Nea Kallikrateia and Polygyros. Chalkidiki is the hometown of Albert Bourla who became quite known for his role in the current health crisis: the CEO of Pfizer. He still has a house in there somewhere. The rest of the peninsula is mostly agricultural and mountainous. Tomorrow will be a hilly day.

A different kind of company

I had company from a 4-legged furry friend for a few kilometers this morning. I was running on very quiet roads by the sea. I normally don’t like when dogs start following me because they have no road sense. Last year a dog who was running by my side got hit by a car and it was very distressing. This morning though, on those quiet seaside roads, I did not mind and he seemed to enjoy it a lot.

Apricots on the run

I felt some fatigue after the run today. It does not happen often and I guess it’s the counter effect of the 4 days break, which was very unusual and did affect my rhythm. A good nap and a longer night and I should be ready for the day ahead. Today I had a few apricots off the trees. Figs are also in season, that’s a great source of natural energy available at the ready 🙂
