Europe

Back on the road for a flat and sunny run not far from the seaside, finishing in a ghost town

I felt fully rested and energised as I left Barletta this morning. The cyclist who wanted to accompany me for a while was nowhere to be seen, so I left on my own. The road I took was very quiet. A ribbon of fields on my right separated me from the sea and to the left, more fields and swamps. I had two encounters with snakes, shiny black ones. I’ll research these tomorrow when I get a better internet connection.

The road was totally flat today, there was no wind and also no traffic. Perfect conditions to start a new week of running. I went a bit faster than I should, but it felt good all along. And following last week’s adventures, I was happy to see for myself that I had fully recovered.

As I reached Ippocampo, I was a bit stunned. I had passed through only one village today, that of Zapponeta. Ippocampo was nothing but a holiday village. And at this time of the year, it was totally deserted. The supermarket was closed, I became worried about finding some food. Luckily the B&B I stay at is the only place that has got a small kitchen and they were able to cook me delicious spaghetti for my lunch. Nothing to do around here but get a good rest!
