Day 327 – EU – Switzerland [Bern to Biel]

25/02/21

39km

From Bern (Switzerland) to Biel (Switzerland)

Europe

Another sunny run in the country between Bern and Biel, it’s getting hot!

Though it’s still quite cold when I leave in the morning, it gets near 20 Celsius by midday. Shorts and t-shirts will be in order very soon! After all this time on the road, there is still no telling what makes a slow day or an energised day. I eat and rest more or less the same everyday and yet, yesterday I was bouncing with energy and today I felt a bit more sluggish. Well, sluggish or not, it was still a beautiful day in the countryside.

I ran towards Aarberg and by the Aare river. Aarberg used to be on an island with the Aare river flowing right past it. Remnant from this time is a beautiful 15th century wooden covered bridge that looks like a longhouse over the water. The area I run in now is mostly agricultural, I see a lot of cattle and crops. It’s very quiet and I meet a fair amount of cyclists, dog walkers and horse riders.

I reached the point where the river Aare meets the Bielersee, a large lake with the snow covered Jura in the background and the city of Biel at the narrow corner. The old town of Biel is very nice and I enjoyed a great walk there. Many buildings are listed on the Swiss Heritage site of national significance, and it is indeed a very pristine city.

Note: the 1st week of March my website will be down for a few days. I am changing web-hosts and upgrading a few things on the site. Meanwhile my Garmin/Strava data will still be uploaded every day on my accounts. Thanks 🙂
