Europe

Rain and headwind the whole way, arriving in the aptly named town of “Monsoon bridge” – and surgery for BoB

I left this morning under the now familiar drizzling and persistent rain of the region, I knew I would have to deal with it throughout the run again. The wind was not very strong but it was in my face most of the time. I passed by very beautiful little villages and arrived at “Pont-a-Mousson” which could be translated as “Monsoon Bridge”. The Moselle river cuts the town in two, and on either side of the bridge are beautiful churches, an abbey and a wide and colourful central village place.

I was a little bit worried throughout the run. Back in Zagreb last October I had changed 8 rivets on BoB the stroller’s main frame. They had loosened up and the structure was being compromised with BoB swinging wildly from side to side. Given that the initial rivets had held for more than 8000kms I did not expect to encounter any issue with them anytime soon. But for the past few days I noticed the side to side swinging was back. Damn.

Didier fitting BoB’s frame with 8 new rivets

That’s where luck struck. Mano, who ran with me a few days ago, had kindly sent emails to a few running and triathlon clubs, informing them of my venue. Didier from the Port-a-Mousson triathlon club picked up the call and got in touch with me. He is a sports doctor and asked if I needed any help. I answered that my body was perfectly fine but it was my equipment that needed mending! Not only is he a doctor and former pro sportsman, he also happened to be equipped to fix BoB and was patient enough to do the job himself.

Didier fitted BoB with 8 rivets to replace the ones fixed in Zagreb: they were the wrong diameter and that’s mostly the reason why they couldn’t hold the frame as tightly as needed. With BoB now back in shape, I should be more relaxed tomorrow!
