Day 182 – EU – Greece – [Rest Day in Astros]

Rest day in Astros (Greece, Europe)

A very pleasant rest day in Astros, with friends – it does not take much more to feel like being on a holiday

I woke up early, in spite of yesterday’s late dinner with my friends – and probably a bit more drinking than I should have done! But both the food and wine complemented the company very well and it felt proper to really enjoy everything and maybe overdo.I started the day with a walk to the castle of Astros, which provides stunning views of the area. Not only that of the old theatre and fortifications of Astros, but also that of the whole bay and the olive groves and surrounding mountains – on the Aegean sea that is.

I then met again with Giannis, the local triathlete, who had arranged a meeting with a journalist for an interview. We shot questions and answers in front of the beach and the primary school which I used back in 2010-2011 as a transition area for the ½ iron triathlon of Astros.

Nigel sent me the link to the article that got published in the regional paper “Leonidion” (named after the region). It’s all in Greek, so I expect only a few of the blog readers to be able to make sense of it – but it also features other pictures taken by Nigel, of me & BoB the stroller in action (the only ones of the world run so far!). I spent the rest of the day by the pool, with my friends, then we walked into town to a nice taverna for dinner. I realised how much “solo” my journey really is – by how much I enjoyed the company this weekend. Though I always try and make connections whenever possible, I mostly eat my meals alone – and this weekend, a simple thing as sharing my meals with friends seemed to me the best treat in the world!
