A beautiful run on the trails, stunning landscapes – and a tiring day

I don’t often feel fatigued, as I get some good rest time in general. But this morning as I woke up before 5am, I felt I had been shorthanded on sleep time! I had found it hard to rest as there was no air conditioning or fan and the temperature had remained quite high throughout the night. So, with very little sleep, I headed out, slow but still determined.

The route today was fabulous. After a first part on the road, I hit the trails, which were a lot wilder than those I have seen till now. I did not meet a soul on my way. Maybe because of the tiredness, I realised at some point that if anything happened to me in this environment (snake bite, twisted ankle or else) it would have been quite challenging to get some help. I don’t usually have these sorts of thoughts.

I carry with me at all times the Spot Satellite Tracker . This is the device that gives my live position (on the front page of the website) as well as feeds TravelMap which then keeps track of the whole journey. The device is equipped with a “”SOS”” button which I can press in absolute emergency – and will result in a Search & Rescue operation based on my latest satellite coordinates. I sure hope I won’t have a need for this feature!

Anyway I enjoyed the route nonetheless and noticed that in the mountains the air was a bit cooler (maybe just a few degrees less than the previous days).

This week has been a good week of running overall, with a reasonable amount of uphill and trail running. I am looking forward to tomorrow and the arrival in Split, where I will get to spend a well deserved rest-day!
