Another short day of running, beautiful vistas – and arrival in a stunning seaside village

An overnight rain brought some very welcomed chilly temperatures this morning. Most of the 600m+ uphill today occurred within the first 15km and it was very pleasant to go through this in cool air.

The view throughout the run was absolutely stunning. And I am afraid this will be the case throughout the run down the Adriatic – I may well have to repeat myself numerous times on this topic!

Yesterday, today and tomorrow are 3 consecutive runs of approximately 33km each. This is quite frustrating for me, as I have the energy and desire to go for more. Unfortunately the way the coast is populated, it is not possible to cut straight 40-45km runs. There simply is nowhere to stop by overnight.

Tonight I’m staying in Jablanac: 1 church, 1 post office, 1 hotel-restaurant. Add to this a few dozen houses, about 10 fishing boats and a good dozen wild cats. That’s all. Not even a mini-market.

As a result of the short run I arrived quite early at the hotel, way before noon. It gave me more time to enjoy the scenery and also take a good dip in the sea. The water is amazing here. I have lived in Greece for over 5 years and I thought it would be difficult to find better looking waters. Well… Croatia is a good runner up!

Tomorrow I’m heading over to Karlobag, a major city (not!). But I hear it’s got 2 mini-markets (whoop whoop!!). Joke aside, I am very happy that I will be spending a rest-day in this small village, it is so very relaxing and enjoyable. And I will have all the time in the world to re-think my planning, now that it is nearly sure I won’t be allowed in Australia in 2020 🙁
