Pleasant and much awaited run, to Trieste, by the sea… and on for a well deserved rest-day!

I was eager to hit the road this morning. The thought of finally running by the sea again was very exciting. It had been since before the lockdown break that I hadn’t properly run with the sea by my side.

I was quite relaxed about the pace today, so I decided to spend some time by the local tourist attractions. First on the road was the Miramar Castle. A beautiful 1860 monument that was the last residence of the Habsburg dynasty. Unfortunately, after I took the narrow downhill road to the foot of the castle, I was informed everything was closed. The castle, but also the seaside walk. Causing me to go all the way back up to the main road!

I then passed one of the tallest Lighthouses in the world: the “Faro Della Vittoria”. A beautiful piece of work and art – which unfortunately I also wasn’t allowed to visit. I will try again tomorrow on my rest day.

The arrival to Trieste was very relaxed. To the image of that James Joyce statue I spotted on the main Piazza. A Trieste resident, who would have guessed! I ran on the seaside promenade, all the way to the city. People sunbathing everywhere (at a safe distance!) a summer-holiday atmosphere, without the big crowds. What a very nice feeling.

Tomorrow is a day off – with such beautiful weather and the sea just nearby, I think I may go for my first sea swim of the year!
