Day 190 – EU – Greece [Rest Day in Marathon]

 Rest day in Marathon (Greece, Europe)

Chilling out in Marathon and enjoying friends company before leaving it all behind tomorrow

The weekend of celebrations is coming to an end and I spent the rest day chilling out and enjoying the area and the parea, recovering from the past days of late night dinners.

The area of Marathon was badly affected by the 2018 fires which burnt a whole part of the dense seaside pine tree forest between Rafina and Nea Makri. Over 100 people died in the devastating fires and the area is still badly scarred by the events. It was shocking to see the sea as far as the island of Evia from the road.

The view from the mountain road, however, as we drove down to the sea was breathtaking.

Over the next two weeks of running, I will make my way north towards Thessaloniki, the second biggest city of Greece. Then I will head towards the next country of the WorldBulgaria. Here is the map of the next 7 days of running, via Lamia towards Almiros. Running inland, saying goodbye to the Aegean Sea for a while…
