Another hilly run on my last full day of running in the Peloponnese

I set out early for another hilly day of running, on the same quiet secondary road I ran on yesterday. I was once again rewarded by an extraordinary sunrise, lighting up the whole bay in hues of powerful red and bright orange. I am aware my days running by the sea are counted, another two weeks or so. I am enjoying it greatly.

For most of the run, I was on my own in this very dense forest, passing outside a few villages only – and again meeting with more goats than cars along the way. As I reached the final downhill towards the sea, I saw a whole part of the mountain was black, completely burnt off. This is the result of last month’s fire, which extended towards Corinth and started just near where I ran. Throughout my run in Peloponnese, fire was always the main danger on my mind. Dense forests (of pine trees mostly), extreme heat and occasional high wind. I was lucky it was not too windy this month.

So the back country was burnt off and thankfully, the villages have been spared. I rest today in the seaside village of Loutra Elenis, by the sea.

As I arrived at the property and chatted with the owner, the resident peacock (named Michalis, pictured) who was sitting in the tree above me, unloaded the content of its bowels right between me and BoB the stroller. We avoided the gunk by a hairs breadth! The owner assured me it was a sign of good luck. I chose to trust her!
