Day 172 – EU – Greece [Rest Day in Kyparissia]

Rest day in Kyparissia (Greece, Europe)

A day off spent walking all around town and swimming in some of the most beautiful waters of the world run

As in all days off, my day started off early. So early in fact that I was at the gate of Kyparissia’s castle, up on the hill, way before opening time. Well, I did not know there was such a thing as an opening time. The view from up there was superb, I didn’t mind the wait. There is not much left of the castle itself but its location is incredibly set.

I completed the tour of the city by walking the old town, the wide open central place and all the little tavernas and cafes lining it. Quite a contrast with the busy new town and centre areas. The city itself is open on the sea and the city’s main beach was quite packed early morning.

I continued walking on the coast till there was no more road, kept going and discovered a deserted sandy bay, with crystal clear waters that looked nothing short of an invitation to go for a swim. The sea was once again surprisingly warm. I tried looking out for turtles, apparently the region is a nest for loggerhead turtles – but as far as I could see, I didn’t spot any.

The next 9 days of running will take me around the South parts of Peloponnese and then North East towards Astros. For many reasons I am looking forward to revisiting this city very dear to me. And the week of running promises to be rich in visits and discoveries of yet more historical treasures. Ain’t I incredibly lucky to be doing what I am doing…
