Perfect conditions for the start of a new week of running – and the Northerly Eastern wind is helping

I was somewhat apprehensive as I set off this morning at 5:30am. Would the same conditions I have experienced continuously last week once again hammer me down? What if I was to be again under the hard sun for the whole duration of the run? Had my body recovered enough?

As it turned out, I was going to be running in the shade for the first 25km today. I was comfortable as usual from the get go but started conservatively as there was a bit of an uphill in the first few kms out of Split. I then settled in my journey-pace and enjoyed the road and the vistas along the way. The NE wind was blowing non stop, providing some sort of ongoing air-cooling service all the way through. Lovely!

The road (as is the case since I have crossed into Croatia) is very quiet, especially in the early morning hours. I haven’t yet been concerned about traffic. I sure hope it will remain the case as I proceed further South. In any case, there are other options, trails in particular, so I feel I should be able to adjust in case the circumstances change.

The arrival in Pisak was a bit of an adventure as I left the main road and ventured onto trails, getting a bit lost along the way it seems! But it was worth it as the views were simply stunning. I reached my accommodation point way before lunchtime, leaving me plenty of time to settle and enjoy a sea swim before tucking into a robust lunch – by the sea of course.

I shall hope the NE wind will remain a daily morning presence on my journey on the Dalmatian Coast!
