Europe

A sunny summer day, through rural villages, fragrant and beautiful

I enjoyed the scenery, very quiet and rural. Cypress trees, endless fields, a church perched on top of a hill overlooking the valley. The colours are beautiful at this time of year, trees blooming, poppy flowers, green fields all around.

I took plenty of breaks and watched my pace so I didn’t reiterate yesterday’s mistake. It helped that there were some uphills, forcing me to a fairly reasonable rhythm. But still “too fast” for the journey yet.

The arrival in Florence was magnificent. I got a sneak peek at some of the architectural jewels the city has in store as I made my way to the hotel. It would have been a great place to enjoy a day-off.

After a solid nap, I took a long walk around Florence. There was so much to see: the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Palazzo & Ponte Vecchio, Piazza della Signoria and so much more.

Renaissance buildings and sculptures scattered across the city, museums, churches and gardens. I don’t have time to see everything but I know I’ll be back one day to have a proper tour.

The next few days will be more mountainous, loads of uphills ahead! Now on for a good rest…
