Day 490 – US – Montana [Reed Point to Columbus]

07/08/21

29km

From Reed Point (Montana) to Columbus (Montana)

North America

A planned very short run amongst the beautiful Montana landscapes

Sunrise on the empty IS90

I was happy for the short run today. Last night camping was great but as it turned out the campground was within 50m of the freeway and that was somewhat noisy! The cool thing about running every day is that you are prone to fall asleep no matter what when the time is right. I got woken up a few times at night by the odd very noisy truck or freight train.

Farms and prairies

I like camping. I always get to meet my neighbours and so far it’s only been good experiences. Yesterday evening my neighbour Kim brought me a plate with fresh vegetables and fruits. How generous of her. I am often the only one pitching a tent, everyone else around has a RV or caravan of some sort. They are curious about what I am doing and look out for me, help me out with water or access to electricity. August should be my last month of camping, as I have no idea what September weather will be like.

The road by myself, again

The run today was as pleasant as they come. I ran the first 14km on the IS90 that was mostly devoid of traffic. Because there was a strong wind and nearby fires, I was unwilling to go run on the country trails. Too isolated. I was able to join the Frontage Road again for the rest of the way, it was quiet and beautiful.

Columbus main street at peak time..!

I went to the Atlas Bar for lunch and had an awesome time there. Local handyman Josh had seen me on the road yesterday and today. He offered me a round of beer and informed everyone at the bar about the journey I was on. Pretty soon I was talking with everyone, but I did not drink all the beers they had for me!

Tomorrow is another short run, which I feel I am deserving of 🙂 Every once in a while, it is very welcome!
