North America

A quiet day on the very empty Southside Rd by the Clark Fork river

Montana landscapes…

A word on the weather and the wildfires. When I started the US crossing earlier this month the “heat dome” was just over with and another heat wave was just hitting the region again. It seems for the past few days temperatures are mild again. When I leave in the morning it’s below 20 Celsius and by the time I finish the run it is just below or at 30 Celsius. Very pleasant. As for the wildfires, I have had a lot less smoke over the past two days. It seems I am now over the region that has been the worst hit. But there is no way to tell how it will evolve, and as the wind is picking up again in the afternoon, it could go either way. I stay informed.

By the Clark Fork river

Today’s run was very quiet. I ran on the Southside Road which is running close by the Clark Fork river and the IS90. I only ran through 1 town today, that of Superior about 2/3rd of the way in. I stopped by to get some supplies, as there is nothing on location where I stay tonight. Lozeau is a place where there is a big ranch with many horses and the lodges (where I stay). Rural and secluded.

Clark Fork river by Superior

The Clark Fork river is truly stunning. I enjoy running by the water – hence why my original European crossing route was entirely by the sea. I mistakenly wrote yesterday in the blog that the river flows all the way to Missoula. Well, it actually flows the other way around (northwest)! Towards Idaho and Lake Pend d’Oreille. I realised my mistake as I took a break and found the flow to be going the opposite way to what I thought it ought to… 🙂
