Last full day in Portugal – flat, straight and pleasant

Today is my last full day in Portugal and I had been hoping for a much brighter day! Unfortunately, as I left Faro, the rain set in again quite early, misty first, then full on. I was lucky that the road was flat and straight today. All I had to do was keep going, BoB was easier on my hands, my mind was allowed to wander about quite freely.

I passed by Tavira, the only major town on my way to the beach resort of Praia da Lota, near Altura. Lovely town, entirely paved from the same little cobblestones I have seen in most towns since Lisbon. What an awesome piece of art this is… As I crossed the bridge, I noticed the little lovelocks on the gates, and took a picture with BoB – thinking maybe my loyal and sturdy road companion deserves some mark of affection every now and then!

I don’t know if that was a curse, but in effect, just a kilometer or so after the picture was taken, BoB suffered its second flat tire of the journey. It’s lucky we were on a rain-break. I carry with me 2 spare tubes at all times, and I also have a repair kit, which means whenever BoB has a flat, I fix it in the evening and it’s good as new again!

After nearly 45km of running pretty much on the same road, we finally reached the seaside resort of Praia da Lota, near Altura, and settled there for the night. I was able to rent a bicycle for the day, and it was nice to get some (more) fresh air and go by the sea – it was rather cold and I shied away from dipping my toes in the ocean!
