Day 428 – EU – Greece [Gomati to Olympiada]

06/06/21

41.2km

From Gomati (Greece) to Olympiada (Greece)

Europe

Ah, the Greek coastline again in all its beauty… coming down from the mountains to such stunning vistas

Down from the mountain

Greece is the 3rd country in Europe I would have run the most kms in, with nearly 2,500kms in total. Today was one of those days where I thought I could run for months on end in the country without tiring of the views, the coastline and the mountains. Everywhere you look is stunning. As I started off in the wee hours, the sea was a bit misty and it gave the coast a mystical look, splendid.

By the Gulf of Ierissou

As I approached Olympiada I passed by a place called Stagira, the birthplace of Aristotle. A reminder of what a rich country Greece is, besides its natural beauty. Olympiada is a small touristy destination, a fishing village. I was again very warmly welcomed by my host Yanna today, who brought me fresh fruits as a present. I like the sound of “apricot” in greek, it goes “verikoko” – sounds about as sweet as it is!

Finishing in time for lunch, always!

What a pleasure to finish the run by the sea and sit down at one of the local tavernas. I am back to eating the food I enjoyed all of last summer when I ran around the country, fresh vegetables and fish with loads of olive oil of course. It sure works for me! It was on the very hot side again today – but I’m not complaining as rain is on the cards for the next few days…
