The last run by the Adriatic sea on an overcast day with troubles on my mind

Never tired of running by the sea…

It was a short day of running today but more importantly, the last of the runs on the Italian Adriatic Coast. I was intent on running as much as I could by the sea and enjoy the beautiful colors, the wind on my face, the sand, the salt. I have immensely enjoyed the east coast of Italy – from Apulia all the way to Emilia-Romagna via Molise and Abruzze and Marche. Even more so maybe because I had missed it last year due to Covid lockdowns. I truly didn’t expect to get a second chance at it during the world run. It was an emotional run and if I have one regret it is that the sea was too cold for a swim! (at least for my standards).

Canale di Cervia under menacing skies

I was a bit distracted throughout the run though. Loads of “thinking / meditating breaks” along the route. This question of the world run insurance coming to an end – given the extraordinary circumstances of the pandemic – is quite baffling and I wondered what I could do to grab the attention of someone in a position to make a decision or at least influence. Last night I decided to publish a post on FaceBook and call for help. I started receiving a lot of messages from friends and acquaintances willing to help and it really surprised me. I will follow all the leads in the hope somewhere along the line I will reach out to the right person.

Sunny lunch outdoors by the canal

Today being my last run by the sea, I indulged in a very nice meal with a beautiful view on the canal and the boats and I was again lucky with the weather. What’s happening now? I am running inland for the next two weeks to close my “Italian Tour” in Trieste (which I ran to on 20th June 2020). I will then rally Thessaloniki (which I ran to on 15th September 2020). From there on, I will run straight to Istanbul, now that the terrestrial border Greece-Turkey is open. I should reach Istanbul at the end of June. Then… let’s see how this part unfolds first!

Personal note: welcome to the world little Victoria and congratulations to the happy parents, Luisa and Stan! This is the first birth of the World Run and your good news will bring a mighty spring in my step in the days to come. Enjoy your precious one and I hope I will get to meet her soon 🙂
