Day 403 – EU – Italy [Rest Day in Rimini]

Rest day in Rimini (Italy, Europe)

A lot of work and some Giro d’Italia fun in the pretty town of Rimini

Giro d’Italia!

Some so-called “rest days” are really about a lot more work than I would like to. Today was one of these days. It started with some administrative issues with the french authorities, for which I had to enrol the help of my parents. Then came the insurance issue. The contract I subscribed to at the start of the world run was a 2 years contract with AXA. The best “round the world” insurance contract on the market. Despite the extraordinary circumstances of the pandemic and the delays incurred (including 4 months lockdown) they refuse to consider my case to allow me to renew for 1 extra year. The contract will expire in December 2021 which leaves me some time to find another solution. But it’s an annoyance…

Echapee just a few seconds ahead of the peloton

Today in Rimini the news was: Giro d’Italia! On the 5th stage of the race, the peloton was riding from Modena (I was there 25th March) to Cattolica (I ran through it yesterday on my way to Rimini). I calculated that I have run 1,682 km since Modena… when today’s peloton took the short ride in precisely 153 km! The choices you make…!

Ah the pleasure of eating outdoors..!

I waited in the city centre along the route of the race. I thought it was a lot of waiting compared to the few seconds of excitement you get when the peloton zooms past, but it was worth it. It was also a much appreciated event to be outdoors, with plenty of other people. Everyone wearing masks and keeping their distances of course. But still, I reflected it had been a long time for everyone. I thoroughly enjoyed that part of the day, along with the nice meals I can now have outdoors. It almost nearly made up for the very unpleasant experience of dealing with the above-mentioned admin tasks!
