Europe

A different run, from the sea to the hills and a finish at Bracciano Lake, superb

Civitavecchia seafront promenade

Today’s run was really enjoyable and something strikingly different from the past few days. Beautiful, bright and warm. I left Civitavecchia by the seafront and ran about 20km by the sea, which was superb. I then cut inland, heading southeast towards the hills on a country trail. I went over a couple of hills, there was no traffic at all. All I met in the hills were cows, donkeys and horses. My kind of playground, it was awesome.

Up the hills on the country trails

I enjoy very much these nature runs. I don’t get a lot of them, as running with BoB the stroller makes it sometimes difficult to venture off road. There’s always the risk I may get stuck somewhere or end up in really difficult situations. The thing is most off road tracks are not verified on Google Maps. It’s always a leap of faith to elect to follow them and I never know what the day will look like. It’s a curse and a blessing, I like the surprise element!

Lake Bracciano

I finish the run in Bracciano, a city set by a superb volcanic lake and hosting a very well preserved medieval castle. I enjoyed a long stroll through the city, the small narrow streets, full of small joints, restaurants and cafes that were unfortunately closed. I am sure the city is bursting with activity in normal times. Tomorrow is the last run of the week, I’m heading to Rome and looking forward to enjoy a day-off there and see all the beauties of a city I have never before visited!
