A beautiful day on the road towards Piombino, perfect place for a rest day

Leaving Cecina on country trails

I was a bit worried about today being the 4th day above 45km this week. I had been feeling tired the past few days. But all my worries vanished as I hit the road. The legs were fine again and I felt more energy than I had in a week. I felt I was back to normal. Well… too bad it happens on the last day before rest! Anyway it gave me plenty of time to enjoy my surroundings and the running itself.

On the Via Aurelia heading South

The road I ran on today was extremely quiet. I was in the company of cyclists, many shouting words of encouragement at me as they passed me by. Very nice. I am really enjoying springtime on the road. Bear in mind I was in Singapore the 7 years prior to my starting the world run and we don’t get season changes over there. Last year I spent spring time in lockdown in Paris, a very urban spring, very different from what I am experiencing now. I am loving it.

Piombino’s port, overlooking Elba

I have reached Piombino, a gem of a city by the sea, right opposite the Elba island (and the larger island of Corsica right behind that). Elba is famous for being the island where Napoleon went into exile in 1814, not quite alone: he had a personal army (guards) numbering 600. I intend to walk through the place tomorrow. And I also have another mission, which is to find a professional who could once and for all, very thoroughly, replace all the rivets on BoB the stroller. The various jobs performed so far were all very amateur, and though they really helped, I need a professional to take a look at it. I need to trust this stroller and right now, I skip a beat every time I’m on rocky ground or even just mounting a pavement. All in all, looking forward to the day ahead!
