47km

From Pavia (Italy) to Codogno (Italy)

Europe

A cold flat run, distracted by a airheaded directional mistake and clocking more kms than planned

The straight flat road between Pavia and Codogno

It may be Springtime but it was damn cold as I left this morning. I was going towards Codogno on a straight line, west to east and there was a headwind blowing my way. I had to wear my gloves and headscarf as well as the windbreaker. It seems I did not manage to retain any of my body heat through the first half of the run. Freezing despite the bright blue sky and sun.

Bridge over the Lambro River

Since the road was so “straightforward” I had my IPhone switched off. I was lost in my thoughts. What would be the ideal scenario to start which continent and when. If I start North America this summer then I can do South America in Winter (summer down there) and then eventually Australia & New Zealand in 2022. I was lost in calculations of kilometers, months, seasons…

Castello Di Chignolo Po

Suddenly I found myself on a road with directions to towns I failed to recognise. I looked at my Google Maps app. Oooops. I don’t know how that happened but I had veered right at a roundabout instead of going straight. That would add 7kms to my running day. Well, there are worse things in life. I looked around and despite the cold it was obviously springtime. Birds singing, trees blooming, loads of coypus (or nutrias) around, swimming in the canals by the side of the road or feeding off the fields. Let’s enjoy this, after all, last year, I did not get to enjoy springtime on the road.
