Post world-run – Back in Europe & Induction into the World Runners Association
It has been a week since I ran my final stage of the world-run in Auckland New-Zealand.
Since then, I have traveled back to Europe on a 27hrs+ flight. I initially thought it was a very long journey… then I put it into perspective, it’s much faster than running in the end!
The French media have all been interested in covering the story of the world-run: national TV channels, radio stations and written press. It felt good to have the world-run in the spotlight, albeit for a short time. The donations for Women for Women International climbed steadily: above $20,000 as of today, and I am pretty sure now that I will reach my target by the time I conclude the celebrations in Rouen on 17th September. It all came from the “Le Parisien” video which went quite well on Facebook, reaching 2.2Million views (and raising). Quite a surprise! https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=2911437179150278
I am now back in Europe. The program going forward consists of sharing about the journey and celebrating in Rouen. I am lined up to visit the youngsters of the Rouen Jailhouse (at their demand) and I am very pleased about it. Whenever I can share the exhilaration of freedom on such a journey… I can only imagine how hard it will be to deliver that message to youngsters stuck between 4 walls.
Then I will have to take steps towards writing a book about the journey. Franck Berteau – the journalist who ran with me 7 marathons in 7 days from Mendoza to San Luis Argentina last February – is helping me with that as he also is a publishing agent. That will help set things in motion.
I will publish another blog soon about the data of the world run, including the full table with all 698 runs listed with details. Coming soon!
